NYC: SAT SEPT 10: RIGHT NOW TIL 10 PM: MONSTER ISLAND FINAL BLOCK PARTY
210 KENT AVENUE, BROOKLYN, NY 11211 corner of Metropolitan
We at Swoon are very saddened to hear that Monster Island—home of two of our favorite underground art spaces—Live With Animals and Secret Project Robot—is slated for demolition next month. Over the years these spaces have given a lot to the local creative community—served up many a good art show/installation/performance…We will miss this colorful place! It was good while it lasted. Come celebrate the finale to this amazing collection of creative spaces at their last ever 7th annual Music Festival and Block Party featuring tons of great bands and two art installations—today until 10 PM, rain or shine.

From Live With Animals:
Thank you so much for your years of support!  We are sad and excited all at the same time for our new beginnings!  This has been an amazing time for all of us at Monster Island, and we at Live With Animals are very thankful for our time here and all of the wonderful people we have been so lucky to work with.  Please take this ending as a reminder of how important it is to support the art scene and never take anything for granted.  We took our name from an excerpt of Walt Whitman poem and saw it fitting to name our final show after Robert Frost’s Nothing Gold Can Stay…which really sums up our existence in this wonderful and quickly fading building.  So alas…

Live With Animals will continue to do curatorial projects in other spaces, and are happy to announce their new studio and home will be in the new Secret Project Robot location. We will be focusing on our projects and music there!  Keep up with us at http://cameronmichel.blogspot.com/ , http://www.thek-holes.blogspot.com/ and of course http://livewithanimals.org.
