Ed Varie is pleased to present EXCAVATION: MATERIAL/MEMORY/ARTIFACT a group exhibition in 3-parts, featuring works by 30 artists of the Pratt Institute M.F.A. department with works ranging from photography and sculpture to performance.

EXCAVATION examines the varied use and role of excavation in today’s art. The exhibition will be conceptualized in three categories, each one succinct. The first exhibition, MATERIAL, will include artists whose practice involves the physical excavation of their medium, the second, MEMORY, will include artists who seek to mine and uncover fragments of a personal or a collective memory, and the last installment, ARTIFACT, includes artists whose work seeks to materialize, reconstruct, or systemize artifacts or the object(s) of investigation.
