SWOON is greatly looking forward to a weekend of screenings and performances featuring the works of many a talented lady—the first curated by Hazel Hill McCarthy III—TONIGHT 6/17 IN ONE OF SHOW CAVE’S FINAL SHOWS ( :( ) & TOMORROW 6/18 by Drew Denny at Sancho Gallery!
TOMORROW:
FEATURING PERFORMANCE, PROJECTION, AND MUSIC BY:
JULIA HOLTER
LAURA STEENBERGE
NIKO SOLORIO (feat. projections from CHAD DILLEY)
SADIE SIEGEL
DREW DENNY feat. MORGAN GEE & BIG WHUP
DJ sets by ALE (dublab) & DAN COLLINS (L.A. RECORD)
visuals by JESSELISA MORETTI & YELENA ZHELEZOV
To celebrate the closing of Tears and Ecstasy, DREW DENNY will perform a multimedia reenactment of her dad’s death- just in time for Father’s Day! Combining pre-recorded score composed by MORGAN GEE, live music by BIG WHUP, video projection and a loosely scripted participatory play, Drew’s performance tells a true story about the absurd nature of the cancer narrative.
In the courtyard:
LAURA STEENBERGE is creating a multi-media presentation about tears and absence through visual metaphors and popular song references by using ink, voice, and household objects.
Hybrid artist NIKO SOLORIO will perform some rare songs from his intimate underground recordings with ROBBIE HANSEN as well as some POCKET NIKO classics, and JULIA HOLTER will perform an entrancing collection of esoteric pop gems.
Inside the gallery:
Throughout the course of the evening, SADIE SIEGEL will be working with sounds which require little more than half of your attention. Responding to the scale and surfaces of the interior, the performance invites the audience to move through somewhat static fields of sound, focusing when they are inclined on the event of its output.
ALE (dublab) and DAN COLLINS (L.A. RECORD) will perform DJ sets complimented with visual projection by JESSELISA MORETTI & YELENA ZHELEZOV.
