LOS ANGELES—TONIGHT—THURS 7/14 8 PM AT CINEFAMILY
ONE MORE CHANCE TO SEE MARIE LOSIER’S BEAUTIFUL FILM:
THE BALLAD OF GENESIS AND LADY JAYE
Swoon got to see it at the REDCAT last weekend—with a great Q and A with Genesis and Marie—happily indeed it lived up to our hopes and expectations!
How refreshing to see a documentary made by an artist—nothing sterile about it—quite the contrary! The film is rich with varied footage filmed over the past 7 years, as well as rare archival footage of William S. Burroughs, Bryon Gysin, Genesis and Lady Jaye’s early performances and even an old VHS of Genesis’ little girls—making music with their daddy at Derek Jarman’s house, of course. The sound is as richly textured as the image…we loved the beautiful refrain of one of their last songs made together…It was, truly, magic(k)al seeing Lady Jaye come to life again—laughing and talking in that tough New York sexy voice, kissing and smiling her angelic smile…and to see dear Big Boy again—the couple’s (or singularity’s rather) dearly departed dog…We were quite delighted with the several scenes of Genesis, dressed to the nines, adorned quite queenly in Edwardian lace collars, red tulle, lying with butterflies, showing us photos of her and Jaye.
The best that can be said about it is summed up in Genesis’ anecdote— that after one of the screenings, an audience member came up to her and said “after seeing this I am no longer afraid of surrendering to love.”
Don’t miss this rare opportunity—TICKETS WILL MOST CERTAINLY SELL OUT SO BUY YOURS IN ADVANCE!
